Energy Flash the compilation

The Hi-Fi Junglist has put the Energy Flash CD - free with the original Picador 1998 edition, attached to the front in fact - on YouTube as a playlist. Below are all the track clips, separately.

Lots of treasure uploaded and some nifty playlists too at Hi-Fi Junglist - including this tune  whose absence on YouTube I'd noticed and had planned to do myself but not got around to, and now H-F-J has relieved me of the need and duty.

Glad you found the uploads Simon and have enjoyed some other treasures on my YT channel which I'm continuing to grow. Thanks for linking it on your blog too. I can't tell you how inspirational the Energy Flash and Rip It Up books were in shaping my listening habits during my 20's, opening my eyes to the world of what went before DnB (rave/hardcore/jungle) and also all things post-punk. Thanks for the insights. Cheers, Sam (aka The Hi-Fi Junglist)

Nice one Sam. keep up the great work! What sort of set up do you use when extracting the audio? Not that I'm an audiophile or anything, it'll be probably be lost on me!

The CD tracks are simply ripped on a CD-ROM drive. I'll try and do some de-clipping if needed, then the sound is synced with stock videos of the CD player and a scan of the artwork projected over the top. Vinyl is a bit more involved, but it's the output from the phono pre-amp into an audio interface which sends it via USB to the computer. I make sure the levels are consistent across the channel, but it's basically the sound straight off vinyl. Of course the videos are of the record playing through with the sleeve (if there is one) propped up behind.

I still have a well worn copy of the "Energy Flash" book and CD and vividly remember being so chuffed in seeing proper underground "rave" tracks on disc at a time before oldskool compilations became popular. The Son'z Of A Loop Da Loop Era, DJ Hype and DJ Trax tunes were my personal favourites.
